Everyone has listened to it before and knows it but barely anyone nowadays can identify it – classical music.
Together with the familiar medium of film music users can learn about classical music pieces in the web application Movie Mixer.
MOVIE MIXER is a project made in cooperation with Karajan Institute.
The user can watch a classical orchestra conducted by the famous conductor Herbert von Karajan and three different, iconic film scenes, that use the same musical piece as the orchestra.
Through the strength of moving pictures and the short but comprehensive information on each of the musical pieces and film scenes shown, the users get a much more accessible entryway to classical music.
Users can compare how the rhythm of the musical piece behaves in different film scenes, by switching between the scenes or view them all together on a multi screen. The original audio of the respective scenes can also be switched and compared.
The web application is controlled via keyboard or mouse. For Rundgang HAW 2017, where the project was exhibited, a little cinema and a remote control were built. Guests could take flyers in the form of cinema tickets with them and try the application at home for a period of time.
